STRESS AND WEIGHT LOSS

Our capacity for dealing with stress has limits. If we exceed those limits, our body breaks down and we become ill. No matter how much stress we endure, we have just two little glands to fight for us, they are called the adrenal glands. In periods of physical and mental stress, we can go into adrenal overdrive. Our adrenal glands get stuck on the "on" position, pushing our whole system into a chronic "fight or flight" mode. Chemicals the adrenals release to accomplish this are adrenaline and cortisol. We will discuss how these chemicals affect weight loss, how stress can affect blood sugar levels. Supplements can also play an important role for weight management, protecting your body from the damaging side effects of stress. A synergized or balance of vitamins, minerals and herbs, can help cut down the likelihood of your body going into a stress response mode. Stress response, can be a vicious cycle, and a lack of nutrients may further damage the nervous system.

THE ADRENALINE EFFECT

Adrenaline decreases the activity of the enzyme that makes GLA (gamma linolenic acids). Decreased GLA affects the production of good eicosanoids. These eicosanoids are a class of hormones that can be thought of as the master control panel for all of the body's functions. When your body produces good eicosanoids, this means that fat can be released faster. Adrenaline causes the tendency in the body to retain fluids, adding to the increase of body weight. Stress also produce an increased level of galanin, and as a result, one can develop the cravings for carbohydrates and fats.

Adrenal Support is especially formulated to nourish the adrenal glands and promote glandular secretion. This special formula contains an adrenal glandular substance, from New Zealand (BSE-FREE bovine); to this a blend of vitamins and herbs are added to create a synergy effect for the glands.

THE CORTISOL EFFECT

Cortisol increases insulin levels, that produce bad eicosanoids. These eicosanoids, slow or inhibit the burning of body fat. Cortisol causes elevated blood sugar levels, which also trigger the release of insulin, causing the body to store fat, instead of burning protein. Cortisol, can cause a chemical like effect in the hypothalamus gland, that may indirectly slow down your metabolic rate. When the hypothalamus senses famine, it produces a chemical reaction signal for you to eat more carbohydrates, which then causes an elevation of insulin. If the signal is adverse or suppressive, the hypothalamus releases galanin, which causes you to eat fats and convert those fats to body fat.

BLOOD SUGAR EFFECT

Stress can cause the rise and fall of blood sugar levels. Hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) is one of the classic examples of this degenerative process caused by constant stress. The adrenal glands and the pancreas are your body's organs for regulating blood sugar levels. Stress can cause an exhaustion of the adrenal glands, which are so essential to proper sugar metabolism. The adrenals release adrenaline, which helps to increase sugar levels in the blood. If the adrenal glands are unable to bring blood sugar levels up to achieve a proper glucose/insulin balance, you will experience anxiety, irritability, mood swings and ultimately depression.

THE ADRENAL GLANDS AND THE PANCREAS ARE YOUR BODY'S ORGANS
FOR REGULATING BLOOD SUGAR LEVELS

The pancreas' job is to release insulin, which helps to reduce excess sugar in the blood. Hypoglycemia happens when the pancreas over-secretes insulin. Excess insulin results in lowering sugar levels too much, causing a craving for sweets, stimulants, overeating, and weight gain. The pancreas can also produce elevated insulin levels that prevent your body from burning stored body fat for energy. Insulin converts excess blood glucose into glycogen, removes it from the bloodstream, and stores it in your liver and muscles. Unfortunately, the excess glucose that your body cannot store as glycogen will be converted to new fat and stored in you adipose tissue-your butt, hips, back, and so forth.
