TIPS FOR SAFE AND EFFECTIVE WEIGHT TRAINING
-
Do not grip the weight or bar too tightly. Place your energy into lifting, not gripping.
-
Perform all exercises slowly - taking 3 seconds to lift the weight and another 3 seconds to lower it back to the starting position.
-
Exhale on exertion, taking care not to hold your breath at any time during the exercise.
-
Choose a weight that you can lift and lower a minimum of eight times. If you find your posture or technique is compromised before you finish you last repetition, your weight is too heavy. Conversely, if you finish the last repetition without feeling fatigue in your working muscle, the weight needs to be increased.
-
Always take a day off between weight-training sessions. Resting between workouts gives your muscles time to rebuild in anticipation of your next workout.
-
Warm up before starting your weight training session be walking or jogging on the spot for five minutes.
